Strong Woman Feature #2

20 May

H-C Creations Jewelry is the brain child of my friend Tara. Readers of Eating Dirt will remember her from last summer.

It was Tara who first approached me for that particular giveaway. But this time, I approached her.

I said, “I’m working on a secret project and I want to feature local strong entrepreneurial women!”

How could she resist my flattery?

Tara is definitely an entrepreneur. She could technically be classified as a stay-at-home mom, but I would call her a mother, a child care provider, a jewelry maker, and most recently, a sales representative for Young Living Essential oils. This is one busy lady!

In our previous partnership, we learned that Tara started working with macrame and hemp at age 12. She furthered her creative aspirations by incorporating all kinds of beadwork into her repertoire.

In November 2013, we learned that Tara makes most of her pieces after her son goes to bed or when he’s with his grandparents. I’ll be interesting to see how Tara will find time to create jewelry this fall after she welcomes a second child into her life. She has already admitted that productivity has declined since becoming pregnant; she has much less energy this time than she did with her first pregnancy!

I have a feeling she’ll make it work. I think there will be a period of adjustment and then the creative juices will start flowing again. After all, with twenty years of jewelry making under her belt, Tara isn’t likely to give up any time soon!

Let’s take a peek at some of at the H-C Creations treasury. It was really difficult deciding what pieces to show because there are so many great ones! Please note: Tara would like to apologize for the quality of some of the photographs. Some of them are blurrier than others, but hopefully the beauty of her jewellery is not lost.

One of Tara’s favourite designs is the tree of life:

Incidentally, Tara is running a contest on her Facebook page right now: visit her page (and scroll down) to get the details on how you could win your very own tree of life necklace!

Once you’ve liked the page, you’ll be able to keep track of new jewelry and about upcoming art and craft sales.

For instance, I saw that H-C Creations will have a booth at Thunder Pride this year – look for Tara’s booth on June 14th at Marina Park between 12pm and 6pm!

Oh, and she’ll have a booth set up at the final Benny Birch’s Birthday Party this year on June 7th (at Chippewa Park)!

Look, there’s Tara rocking her wares at an H-C Creations booth! If you stumble upon this sight at a mother’s market or craft fair, you should say hello (and buy a necklace) because Tara is definitely a kind-hearted and friendly soul!

Tara’s jewelry is also available at Little Giant’s Indoor Play Centre.

Coming up: The third instalment of Eating Dirt’s Strong Woman features.
